OTTUMWA, Iowa - Steve Emery Skoviera, 91, a native of Ironwood, Mich., died peacefully with his loving family by his side at 8:33 a.m. March 17, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa.
He was born Aug.14, 1925, in Ironwood, to John and Mary Mursek Skoviera. He married Audrey Genevieve Maxinoski on Nov. 14, 1953.
A graduate of Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1952, serving in both World War II and the Korean War.
Steve drove and delivered freight for Glendenning Motorways for 29 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ironwood for many years, and at his death was a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood.
Surviving is his wife, Audrey; two daughters, Blanche Hamilton, of Minneapolis, and Kathy (Tom) Sisler, of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Dana (Brian) Martodam, Jenny (Dan) Starkey and Nathan Harley; and five great-grandchildren, Tristan, Kendall and Emery Starkey, and Taylor and Ashlyn Martodam.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Father Robb Jurkovich presiding. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood. The family will be present at the church one hour prior to the service to greet relatives and friends.
