HURLEY, Wis. — Lorraine C. Trombley, 93, a lifelong Ironwood, Mich. resident, died peacefully Friday evening, May 12, 2017, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.
The former Lorraine Oie was born Aug. 29, 1923, in Ironwood, daughter of the late Edwin and Ida (Secore) Oie, attended St. Ambrose and Ironwood schools, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1941. She then attended nursing school at University Hospital in Chicago, receiving her nursing certificate in 1944, and worked at Trinity Hospital in Ashland for one year.
She married Raymond J. Trombley on Dec. 23, 1943, in Atlanta, Ga. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1998.
Lorraine was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood and its former Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed fishing, camping, sewing and craftwork.
Surviving are a son, David (Joy), Rothschild; two daughters, Bonnie Trombley and Debbie (Ray) Bastman, both of Ironwood; five grandchildren, Keith (Ann) Bastman, Amy (Andy) Tait, Carrie (Korey) Jazdzewski, and Dillon and Molly Trombley; eight great-grandchildren, Brianne, Morgan, Paige, Ryder, Brady, Jillian, Madalyn and Audrey; one step great-granddaughter, Gena; and sister-in-law, Joyce Garland, Ironwood.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Edward, Alfred, Clyde and Melvin Oie; step brother, Melbourne Garland; sisters, Mary Louise Babicky and Leone Luoma; and step sister, Marjorie Perkins.
Out of respect for Lorraine’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
Private inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
