Bessemer — A Bessemer resident was arrested Thursday in connection with a hit-and-run accident earlier that day.
Casey Andrew Gates, 27, is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, failure to stop at scene of a personal injury accident and operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license.
The charges stem from a 911 call the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department received at 2:17 a.m. Thursday that was “unclear if it was an assault or motor vehicle accident,” according to a department press release.
Deputies, along with Michigan State Police, responded to Second Avenue in the city of Bessemer, where they met a man, 33, with injuries requiring he be transported by Beacon Ambulance to Aspirus Ironwood.
The investigation showed the injuries appeared to be from being struck by a vehicle that then left the scene, according to the release.
At 3:36 p.m., deputies executed a search warrant on a Bessemer residence and Gates was arrested.
Gates is next scheduled to appear in Gogebic County District Court June 1.
