MERCER, Wis. - The Taste of the Northwoods had a large turn-out despite cloudy weather on Sunday.

Mercer's finest food establishments showcased their best menu items for the event at the Community Center.

Nine local establishments were involved in the fourth annual event. Each table offered a variety of foods. At the end of the event, the table with the "tastiest" entry was given the People's Choice Award.

This year, that honor went to the Heart of the North Bar and Grill.

Paul LaFourest and Emily Conway enjoyed the many dishes at the event. "Tons of 'hearty' local favorites here," said LaFourest. "It's delicious." The two, were visiting from Austin, Texas.

"I'm glad we made it for this. We're getting an actual taste of the Northwoods, which is great," said Conway.

The Mercer Education Foundation sponsors the event each year, donating the proceeds to various educational opportunities for area students and teachers.

"We provide scholarships for children from the local school and we also provide teacher grants," said Jama Boes, with the MEF.

Aside from the wide array of foods, there were various raffles, with prizes from Mercer artists and merchants.

There was also a presentation from the Mercer High School robotics team of its recent trips to New York and Boston. The trips were funded partially by the efforts of the MEF.
