WAUSAU, Wis. - Darlene Marie Kokely, 73, of Iron Belt, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born June 2, 1943, in Ironwood, Mich., the daughter of Eino and Dolores (Baross) Mattson.
She graduated from the J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley with the Class of 1961. For the past 18 years, she had been employed at Ironwood Plastics, retiring on Feb. 2, 2017.
Darlene enjoyed country music concerts, ice fishing and stamping and crafting. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and attending her grandchildren's events. She enjoyed sports and was an avid Packers fan. Darlene was involved with many cancer walks and polar plunges.
She is survived by her mother, Dolores, of Iron Belt; four sons, Todd (Bernie) Kokely, of Iron Belt, Jason (Tracy) Kokely, and Quinn (Stacy) Kokely, both of Hurley, Chris Olson, of St. Michael, Minn .; five daughters, Carenea (Kevin) Aijala, of Oma, Jody (David) Brown, of Iron Belt, Cherie Kokely, of Hurley, Becki (Ray) Chavers, of Saxon, and Kristen (Bryan) Nelson, of Iron Belt; three brothers, Robert (Donna) Mattson, of Ironwood, Donald (Carol) Mattson, of Iron Belt, and William Mattson, of Iron Belt; her sister, JoAnne Walta, of Nekoosa; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Kokely, on Aug. 4, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her father; her sister, Bonnie Misuraco; her son, James Olson, in infancy; and two sisters in infancy.
Cremation has taken place at the Range Crematory in Hurley. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood. Rev. Kurt Kovanen will officiate. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Inurnment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Iron Belt.
