BLACK RIVER HARBOR - While there isn't a definite timetable for the work, officials with the Ottawa National Forest say they were working with a company to re-open the boat launch at Black River Harbor.
Last week, the U.S. Forest Service Ottawa National Forest's Facebook page posted that heavy rainfall had washed sediment into the harbor, blocking the boat launch.
"We are working on getting somebody out there to remove all the silt that was deposited in those last rainstorms," Lisa Klaus, the public affairs officer for Ottawa National Forest, said Wednesday.
Klaus said the Forest Service is developing a contract for the project and is in the process of determining the scope of work and the equipment needed to remove the sediment. A timetable for re-opening the launch will be clearer once these steps are completed.
Klaus said she hoped the work will be completed as soon as possible.
"We don't want everybody to drive all the way up there and then find out it's closed and have to come back," Klaus said. "As soon as we get some dates on that, we will definitely let everybody know."
