ONTONAGON, Mich. — Rose Marie Skoviak, 84, of Ontonagon, passed away, Jan. 18, 2017.
Rose Marie was born to Arthur and Louise King on June 2, 1933, in Ewen, where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Ewen High School with the class of 1952.
In 1954, she wed Calvin Hansen and was blessed with five children. Their union ended in 1968 and Rose Marie raised her children in Ewen. On July 23, 1982, Rose Marie and Joseph Skoviak united in marriage and began their new life in Ontonagon. They shared a beautiful life together, guided by their Lord, Jesus Christ.
She was an active member of the Catholic church and the church is where she drew her strength. She enjoyed volunteering in the church and in the community in Ewen, playing Scrabble and cards with her mother, baking goodies, sewing, quilting, crafting, flower gardening and going to yard sales.
Anyone who knew Rose Marie would agree she had a heart of pure gold and a personality beyond compare. She was patient, loving and compassionate and enjoyed the simple things in life. Rose Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was time spent around family.
Survivors include her children Greg (Carla) Hansen, of Lake Nacimiento, Calif., Ron (Sharon) Hansen, of Shakopee, Minn., Linda (Chris) Annala, of Long Beach, Calif., and Renee (Mark) Harper, of Cocolalla, Idaho; Edmund Skoviak, of Enfield, Conn., Joseph (Joanne) Skoviak, of Renton, Wash., and Susan Skoviak, of Allen, Texas; grandchildren Ashley Hansen, Ellery and Severin Hansen, Amy and Kelly Annala, Dakota and Scarlett Harper; Mercedes Floyd and Savannah Skoviak, Shaleia Skoviak and Jesse Llamas. Rose Marie is also survived by her sister Angela (Merlin) Niemi, of Escanaba; and several loving cousins, nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Skoviak, of Ontonagon; son, Michael Hansen; parents, Arthur and Louise (Bouvier) King, of Ewen; and brothers, Raymond (Marie) King, of Kenosha, Wis .; and Jule (June) King, of Milwaukee.
A celebration of Rose Marie’s life will be held Thursday, June 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon on Friday, June 9, at 11 a.m. with Father Michael Jacobus officiating.
Lunch will be served in the church basement after the funeral service, followed by the procession to Evergreen Cemetery in Ewen.
