Ironwood — The Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre is coming back to Ironwood the week of June 26 for auditions and practice, starting at 9 a.m., with the main attraction happening on Saturday, July 1, at 2 and 6 p.m.
According to Jeramy Day with the PFCT, the traveling shows have been happening for 31 years. The theater is up to 11 traveling teams, comprised of a professional actor and director duo responsible for their show. The theater is always hiring and puts its new hires through a rigorous week of training before sending them out on the road to work with area kids.
Day said Sunday is the travel day. The teams get to their new location and open auditions on Mondays for two hours and then begin an intensive rehearsal schedule the rest of the week, for the two shows on Saturday.
Currently. the PFCT has 11 different shows available and the Historic Ironwood Theatre has contracted for “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
Auditions are open to kids aged 7-18. According to the HIT website, they have openings for 70 kids with the Snow White production.
They need singers and non-singers. They need dancers and non-dancers. The theater needs motivated young people whp want to get involved with the production and have fun for the week, while gaining some perspective and skill on theater work.
Day said many kids gained their first exposure to theater with PFCT and have made it all the way to Broadway in New York. They have also had actor/director employees who have gone on to produce shows in Chicago and the Twin Cities.
