Ironwood — Floydian Slip, founded in 1999, with members who have known each other and have been playing together since as early as 1982 is coming to the Historic Ironwood Theatre July 8.

The theater’s website says the doors and bar will open at 6:30 p.m., while the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Advanced ticket costs are $15 for adult general admission and $5 for students. Add $3 for tickets purchased at the door on the day of the show.

Andy Noyes, guitarist, says despite the name, they are not a Pink Floyd cover band, although they do have a half dozen Floyd songs in their 200-song catalogue and they do draw influence from Pink Floyd.

Noyes said Floydian Slip has a large body of original songs, including three musical albums released to date and a fourth on the way, but they play a lot of covers with influences from the classic rock scene and the Jam Band Movement, with some reggae thrown in for good measure.

The Jam Band originated with the Grateful Dead, according to Noyes. Jam bands include lots of improvisation and different genres of music played together, combining for a fan experience where people are encouraged to record and share the concerts with other people.

The members of Floydian Slip include two professional school teachers and a wood worker. Noyes is the only full-time musician.

The band rehearses every week and, according to Noyes, it has to, with over 200 songs on the play list. Noyes says they include a lot of improvisation in an effort to keep the dance floor hopping and the band interested.
