Patrick Sean Mullen

IRON BELT, Wis. - Patrick Sean Mullen, 62, of Iron Belt, was lifted from the loving embrace of his children on June 16, 2017.

Patrick was born in Ironwood, Mich., to Patricia (Nolan) and Donald Mullen on Nov. 12, 1954. Growing up, he helped build the family cottage along with his siblings at Island Lake. He liked to refer to himself as "the farm boy from Brooklyn," having lived there as a child.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the early 1970s, serving aboard the USS Charles P. Cecil, a destroyer ship, and the George C. Marshall, a nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine, receiving the National Defense Service Medal.

In 1980, Patrick met Sherry Schwartz of Ironwood, whom he married in 1986 and shared four children with. Patrick enjoyed teaching his children how to ski while working at Big Powderhorn Mountain as hill operations coordinator for 25 years.

He was a talented musician and played in many bands as lead guitarist with his '73 Gibson Les Paul custom. He enjoyed spending time with his children and friends at Island Lake. Pat took pride in his wardrobe, especially while bartending. He was extremely proud of his children and also proud to be a wee bit Irish.

Pat was never at a loss for a comeback or a wisecrack. He was funny, quick-witted, charming, and never suffered from a lack of confidence while entertaining everyone with his contagious sense of humor. Pat enjoyed camp-life and living "off the grid." He was very intelligent and shared much of his knowledge. He strived to be a good person and do the right thing. Pat was very genuine and would never turn his back on someone who needed help.

He is survived by his three children, Michael of Hurley, David of Iron Belt, and Tiffany of Ironwood; three grandchildren, Timothy, Madeline and Keegan; and his God-son, Adam Kangas of Iron Belt. He is also survived by his siblings, Donna (Mark) Campbell of Marquette, Mich., Mary (John) Abbott of Pewaukee, and Daniel of Iron Belt; and his stepfather, Rudy Kangas of Iron Belt.

Patrick was preceded in death by his mother and father; his beloved son, Patrick Timothy; his brother, Nicholas Kangas; brother-in-law, Alan Kangas; and his dog, Nicholls.

He will be missed tremendously by all who knew him, especially his children.

In accordance with Patrick's wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley. Father Frank Kordek, OFM will be the celebrant. Pat's family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the mass on Friday. Full military rites will be accorded by VFW Post 1580, American Legion Post 58, Amvets and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 529 Honor Guards following the mass.

A celebration of life will be held at the Iron Belt Community Center at 5 p.m. on Friday evening. Range Funeral Service and Crematory, Ketola-Burla Funeral Home of Ironwood is assisting the family with arrangements. To send online condolences, visit rangefuneralservices.com.
