WESTON, Wis. - Edwin J. Sybeldon, 79, of Pine Lake, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at Tender Reflections in Weston.
He was born Sept. 4, 1937, in Ironwood, Mich., son of the late Edwin and Rosetta (Murray) Sybeldon, and graduated from Hurley High School in 1955. He then received a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from St. Norbert College in De Pere and a master's degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1966.
Ed was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Green Bay and Escanaba, Mich., for two years, before working with the State of Wisconsin Health and Social Services and Department of Corrections, retiring after 32 years of service as Treatment Director and Area Administrator in 1994. He enjoyed downhill skiing, golf and playing sheepshead, cribbage and smear. He was a member of the Hurley Lions Club and the National Association of Social Workers, and was a dedicated family man and dedicated professional.
On June 27, 1959, he was married to the former Monica Wodlarski in Plover. She survives.
Also surviving are a son, James (Ann), Woodbridge, Ill .; daughters, Peg (Brian)Vrieze, Champlin, Minn., and Lauri (Paul) Domski, Tijeras, N.M .; five grandchildren, Andrew and Audrey Domski, Matthew and Megan Sybeldon, and Clayton Grubbs; sister, Rita (John) Anderson, Santa Barbara, Calif .; sisters-in-law, Carol Sybeldon, Tilleda, and Betty Moerke, Omaha, Neb .; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by brothers, Martin and John.
Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 3, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, with the Rev. Frank Kordek OFM, celebrant.
Rite of Committal and inurnment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.
Luncheon will be served at the Oma Town Hall upon return from the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
