Jill L. Saaranen Sliger

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Jill L. Saaranen Sliger passed away the morning of July 30, 2017, at the Omega Cancer Center in Houghton.

She was born Oct. 30, 1964, in Wakefield. She graduated from Ewen-Trout Creek High School in 1983 and moved to Tallahassee, Fla., in 1985.

She is survived by Sten Sliger; their children, Case, Jillian and Tess, of Tallahassee; three brothers, Jay (Donna), of Trout Creek, Joey, of Noble, Okla., and Derek (Angela), of Cary, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lois Platzke and Ed Saaranen.

She was a special education teacher in Florida and received the Teacher of the Year Award. She retired from the Watersmeet School System.

She enjoyed her Harley and made several trips to Sturgis and also was a fan of Florida State football.

Reiny Moll was a special friend of hers.

Memorial services for Jill will be held Thursday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m., with visitation one hour before the service at Bruce Crossing Bible Church with Pastor Steven Washburn officiating. Burial to be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Bruce Crossing immediately after services. A service of life will be held at Loggers Alley following the burial.
