Ironwood — A Minnesota woman was arrested Monday after the Ironwood Public Safety Department received a report of a possible drug overdose death in downtown Ironwood in the morning.
According to an IPSD report, around 10:22 a.m. two officers and Beacon Ambulance were dispatched to 111 S. Suffolk St. by central dispatch. The initial report said an unresponsive male at the scene was not breathing.
Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation was already initiated by someone at the residence, but “despite everyone’s effort, the male individual passed away,” an IPSD news release said.
“It is suspected at this time the incident may be related to heroin or other illegal controlled substances,” the release said.
Officers from the Gogebic-Iron Area Narcotics Team assisted in investigating the incident and a 34-year-old Minnesota woman was arrested. She faces charges of delivering less than 50 grams of a mixture containing heroin. The penalty for the charge is 20 years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine, according to the IPSD.
The woman was incarcerated in the Gogebic County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond. Her name will be released after she is arraigned in Gogebic County Court.
There was no information about the identity or age of the deceased man.
“At this time, we cannot confirm the cause of death in this incident is actually due to a drug overdose, nor can we confirm at this time the actual drug that may be involved. We hope to have more information on the actual cause of death once we receive the results of testing by the medical examiner,” the IPSD release said.
“We would encourage anyone needing assistance with drug problems to seek medical or professional help,” it added.
