WAKEFIELD, Mich. - Kenneth R. Nelson, 75, of Ironwood, died peacefully early Friday morning, Aug. 18, 2017, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.
Ken was born Dec. 26, 1941, in Bessemer Township, son of the late Oscar and Anna (Erickson) Nelson, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School, Ironwood, with the Class of 1959. He then attended North Central Technical College in Wausau, Wis.
Following graduation from North Central Technical College, Ken worked at a greeting card company. Upon returning to Ironwood, he was employed at the Ironwood Daily Globe as a linotype operator. He later worked on the new press and was a route driver just prior to his retirement.
Ken loved to fish, especially on Lake Superior. He also enjoyed gardening.
On June 10, 1972, he was united in marriage to Frances I. Talaska at the First Presbyterian Church in Ironwood.
Surviving are his wife, Frances, of 45 years; brothers- and sisters-in-law, John and Joanne Talaska, Fond du Lac, Wis., Jim and Theresa Talaska, Montreal, Wis., Sally Nelson, Wausau, Wis., and Dang Talaska, Plainfield, Ill .; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Ken was predeceased by twin infant brothers and brother, Herb Nelson; and father- and mother-in-law, Bob and Bertha Talaska.
Out of respect for his wishes, cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood, with Dr. Jack Fashbaugh officiating.
Committal will take place at the funeral home, with luncheon to follow at the Elk & Hound on Country Club Road in Ironwood.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
