ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Leonard E. Michaelson, 89, recently of Altamonte Springs, and formerly of Ironwood, Mich., and Duluth, Minn., passed away on Aug. 12, 2017.
He was born to the late Leonard Sr. and Linnea Michaelson on Aug. 4, 1928, in Ironwood. Leonard was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He proudly served his country in the U.S Army from 1946 to 1948 as a member of the occupation Army in Korea.
Leonard worked as an administrator for Duluth Winnipeg and Pacific Railway for many years. He was a member of the VFW and an usher with Salem Lutheran Church ECLA when residing in Ironwood. Leonard also served as a member of the American Legion Honor Guard for many years. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed caring for his home and family. Leonard will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in passing by his wife of 47 years, Leona, in 1998; his son, Steve Michaelson; his brother, Ron K. Michaelson; and his grandson, Mark Fracassi.
Leonard is survived by his daughters, Bonna Okstad and her husband Walt, Tammy Michaelson, Lisa Michaelson and her husband, Ajay, and Lori Canfield and her husband, John; his grandchildren, Craig Michaelson (Nicole), David Fracassi, Tara Doolittle (Tom), Christopher Freitas, Gregory Freitas, Brianna Canfield, Stella Canfield and Sophia Canfield; and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Leonard will be held on Sept. 23. A gathering with photo tribute will begin at noon and service will follow at 1 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 333 E. Aurora St., Ironwood, MI.
Inurnment will follow at a later date at Forest Hill Cemetery in Duluth.
