Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
ONTONAGON - More than 400 people celebrated with Aspirus Ontonagon officials Monday for the 10th anniversary of the institution purchasing the struggling Ontonagon Memorial Hospital.
The hospital was one week away from closing its doors and community leaders were working to find a solution for the area's health care needs 10 years ago. Community leaders reached out to Aspirus officials in Wausau, Wis. After a six-month review, Aspirus purchased the hospital.
On Monday, as a thank you to the community, the Ontonagon Aspirus Hospital held a picnic for the entire county, with food and children's games.
Officials thanked the community and employees for their loyalty.
