Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
IRON BELT, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s resurfacing of Wisconsin 77 from Hurley’s Cary Location to Upson is completed, just in time for fall color season.
There was some work being done on the approaches to side streets in Iron Belt on a sunny Tuesday, but the highway surface was smooth.
The extent of the improvement area is from Cary Location in Hurley, near the County D extension roadway, to Upson Lake Road, near Upson.
The Cary stretch of Wisconsin 77 was also resurfaced as part of Hurley’s County D extension project.
With fall color season nearing its peak in a week or so, the highway was getting quite a bit of use on Tuesday.
The state’s summer preventive maintenance improvement project extended through the city of Montreal and its historic district and the towns of Pence, Iron Belt and Upson.
The work crews tore up about an inch and a half of the highway and laid down two inches of blacktop. Considerable curb, gutter, sewer drain and sidewalk work has also been part of the project.
The Mellen to Upson stretch of Wisconsin 77 was done previously.
