KIMBALL, Wis. - Mary Hilda (Stump) (Reed) Ahonen, 84, has passed away at home with her husband and daughter at her side. Mary was received by the Lord on Sept. 23, 2017.
Mary was born March 16, 1933, in Sharpsburg, Md., as the eldest daughter of the late Charles Oliver and Rose Lee (Griffith) Stump. Mary graduated from Boonsboro High School, Boonsboro, Md., in 1951. She married Robert Theodore Reed in 1954. After traveling with Robert while he was in the military, they settled in Jessup, Md.
In 1963, Mary was employed in the Anne Arundel school system in Jessup and also taught at the Catholic school in Glen Burnie, Md., for a combination of 30 years, retiring in 1993.
She married Ronald William Ahonen on March 26, 1976, and lived in Elkridge, Md., until 1994, then moved to their present home in Kimball.
Mary loved to bowl in her younger years and received several bowling awards. She also loved to play bingo and was a Domestic Violence Escape volunteer for over 22 years, receiving numerous certificates of appreciation from DOVE. While raising her family, she also did arts and crafts and did so until her illness. She was a collector of Hummels, Snow Babies, Mary Moo Moos, dachshund figurines, thimbles, match books, salt and pepper shakers and cow paraphernalia.
Mary was a member of the Kimball Homemakers, Wesley United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She also was an active volunteer for the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department. Above all, Mary loved her extended family and was extremely devoted and caring to her husband.
Surviving are her husband, Ronald; son, Robert K. Reed, Arbutus, Md .; daughter, Donna Reed, Kimball; granddaughters, Carrie Reed and Lisa, and grandson, Robert Reed Jr .; sister, Peggy (Gerald) Clark, Hagerstown, Md .; niece, Rebecca (Tom) Miller; nephews, Dennis (Kim) Clark and Charles (Dawn) Clark; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kuula, Hurley, Marlene (Andy) Torrez, Kenosha, and brother-in-law, David Ahonen, Hurley; stepson, Kenneth (Juan) Ahonen, Key Largo, Fla .; stepdaughter, Jennifer (Robert) Phillips, Mt. Airy, Md .; and several nephews and nieces and grandnephews and grandnieces.
Preceding Mary in death, besides her parents, were brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Nancy Stump and Charles W. and Ginger Stump; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine and Roy Cook.
In keeping with Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Services in Ironwood, Mich., will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, Oct. 6, with the family receiving relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Pastor Rosemary DeHut and former Pastor Jean Rencontre will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, any donations are requested to be given to the Wesley United Methodist Church local mission fund in memory of Mary.
