Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties
BESSEMER — Lisa Hewitt, of Wakefield, has been selected to fill the vacancy in the Gogebic County Treasurer’s office.
Gogebic County Prosecutor Nick Jacobs, who was on the three-person committee to appoint a treasurer, announced the selection on Friday.
Hewitt replaces Sue Pertile, who retired effective Oct. 31.
Jacobs noted the committee formed under state statuteS completed the process of reviewing applications and conducting interviews to appoint the treasurer for the term of office which expires on Dec. 31, 2020.
Hewitt has served as the magistrate for Gogebic County’s 98th District Court for the past three years.
Prior to that, she was employed as the administrative assistant for the family division of the 32nd Circuit Court.
Hewitt will be officially sworn in to assume the treasurer’s position on Nov. 1. She will serve through the 2018 election cycle, according to Jacobs, with the office appearing on the August partisan primary and November general election ballots.
The winner of the election will serve the remainder of the term, which ends Dec. 31, 2020.
The winner of the 2020 election will then serve the next full term as treasurer.
Hewitt’s becoming treasurer leaves the magistrate position vacant, Jacobs told the Daily Globe.
