IRONWOOD, Mich. - John G. Moon, 62, of Ironwood, died unexpectedly Monday evening, Oct. 16, 2017, at home.
He was born Feb. 24, 1955, in Ironwood, son of Mary "Liz" (Edyvean) and the late Orlo Moon, attended Ironwood schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1973. While in high school, he exceled in football and wrestling. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army, serving his country in Germany and Turkey.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, John was employed as a computer engineer/instructor for Exxon Corp. and Compaq Computers. Returning to Ironwood, he worked at Forslund Building Supply, as a salesman for Lahti Inc., as a driver/salesman for Sara Lee, and as manager of the automotive department at Walmart until his retirement in February of 2017. During these years, he also was a ski instructor at Blackjack Mountain. Building computers, skiing and tinkering with cars were John's passion.
He was married to Bobbie Kelgin, whom he met while stationed in Virginia. They later divorced.
Surviving are three sons, Tim, Chris and Tom, all of Ironwood; his mother, Mary "Liz" Moon, Ironwood; three brothers, Joe (Mickey), Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Jerry (Sheri), Montreal, Wis., and Tom (Jane), Ramsay; two sisters, Roberta (Bruce) Jackson and Beth (Mike) Hill, both of Bessemer; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Per John's wishes, cremation has taken place.
A gathering of family and friends in celebration of John's life will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, at Blackjack Ski Resort beginning at 1 p.m.
