Bessemer — The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners approved two appointments Wednesday.

Sara Ribble, of Ironwood, was appointed court magistrate and John Matonich, of Lake Gogebic, was named to the Peer Review Group for the Gogebic County Remonumentation Program.

Gogebic County District Court Judge Joel Massie joked about the revolving seats in the county when the Ribble appointment was approved. She takes the position of former magistrate Lisa Hewitt, who was named county treasurer upon the retirement of Sue Pertile.

“This is one of the few positions that needs approval of the county board,” Massie said of Ribble’s appointment.

County administrator Julianne Giackino later informed the board that Linda Dean has been appointed Friend of the Court by Circuit Court Judge Michael Pope.

Board members agreed to advertise for two people to sit on the Gogebic County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. The three-year terms will run through Oct. 31, 2020.

Rudy Grbavcich chairs the GCBRA.

The county board’s next meeting will be on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 5 p.m. to avoid a Thanksgiving eve session.

Giackino noted with the holiday coming up, deer season and commissioners planning to be out of the area; there will be a scramble to get quorums for some of the county board and committee meetings.

“That’s why we have seven people on the county board,” commissioner Jim Oliver, of Ironwood, said.
