HURLEY, Wis. - Christopher David Rosemurgy, 45, of the town of Oma, Hurley, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at home.
He was born Dec. 10, 1971, in Ontonagon, Mich., to Natalie (Swanberg) and the late Thomas Rosemurgy, and graduated from Ontonagon High School in 1991. He then served stateside for four years in the United States Marine Corps, mainly in North Carolina, and upon discharge, served in the USMC Reserves.
Chris worked briefly in Ontonagon as harbormaster at the marina, and since March of 2000, has been employed as a correctional officer with the state of Michigan at the Ojibway Correctional Facility in Marenisco, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of the Michigan Department of Corrections Honor Guard and the Emergency Response Team of the Department of Corrections. He enjoyed hunting, mountain biking, spending time with family and traveling with his wife.
He married Patricia Christoferson on Oct. 11, 2012, in Bora Bora, French Polynesian Islands. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Jacob Rosemurgy, Bessemer, Mich., Destinee Rosemurgy, Marquette, Mich., and Nadia Rosemurgy, Bessemer, and their mother, Kristie (Stephen) Peterson, Bessemer; his mother, Natalie Rosemurgy, Ontonagon; two brothers, Steven, Chicago, and Thomas (Christiann) Houghton, Mich .; mother-and father-in-law, Barbara and David Christoferson, Ironwood, Mich .; nieces and nephews, Hannah Rosemurgy, Sam Rosemurgy, Thomas Schmidt and Charlie Schmidt; and other nieces and nephews.
Out of respect for Chris's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 18, from noon until 2 p.m., at the McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, 305 N. Lowell St., in Ironwood. Memorial services will follow at 2 p.m., with Pastor Todd Winkler officiating.
Full military honors will be accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard, with assistance from the Michigan Department of Corrections Honor Guard.
Luncheon will follow the service at the Iron Horse Saloon in downtown Hurley.
