GREENSBORO, N.C. - Edward G. Hoeft passed away peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 18, 2017.
He was born in Bessemer, Mich., the son of Clarence and Vera Hoeft, on May 22, 1933. He graduated from A.D. Johnston High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving four years. He traveled the world during his career with the Central Intelligence Agency.
He was active in football with the Greater Manassas Football League as a coach and later as the Commissioner. He retired to Lake Gogebic, in his beloved Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where he hunted and fished, remodeled their cottage home, continued to work a variety of jobs and enjoyed retirement.
Mr. Hoeft is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Clarence James. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Hoeft, of Greensboro, N.C., and sons, Gordon (Emma), of Christie, Va; Kenneth (Janet), of Dunnellon, Fla .; Scott (Michelle), of Suwanee, Ga., and daughters Gail Parker (Buck), of Randleman, N.C., and Kimberly Spalding (Dave), of Wilmington, N.C .; a nephew, and numerous nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Options and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro for their loving care.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
