Recovered woman named

BESSEMER — The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department released the name of the 65-year-old woman whose body was recovered near Rainbow Falls at Black River Harbor on Wednesday.

Candace Zahn Cain, of Woodruff, is thought to have entered the water in the vicinity of Copper Peak, miles upstream on the Black River, which allowed the search teams to focus on areas downstream from there to the harbor.

The sheriff’s department does not think foul play was involved in Cain’s death.

The sheriff’s department was dispatched to attempt to locate the woman at 7:26 a.m. on Wednesday. Information from Wisconsin authorities led the sheriff’s office to search the areas of Copper Peak and Black River Harbor in Ironwood Township.

Around 8 a.m. Wednesday, deputies located the missing woman’s vehicle parked in the lot by Black River Harbor. Upon locating the vehicle, deputies on scene requested additional personnel and the Gogebic County Search and Rescue team to be activated.

The woman’s body was located in the area of Rainbow Falls shortly after 10 a.m. She was pronounced dead on scene and transported to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital for further investigation.
