IRONWOOD, Mich. - Gerard D. "Jerry" Stutz, 86, of Ironwood, died peacefully early Thursday morning, Dec. 14, 2017, at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Hurley, Wis., son of the late Anthony and Matilda (Page) Stutz, attended Ironwood schools and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1949. He then served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in October of 1952.
He married the former Elizabeth Arlie Snow on July 3, 1952, in Indianapolis, Ind.
Following discharge from the Army, Jerry began his career in banking at the National Metals Bank, later known as MFC First National Bank, in downtown Ironwood, serving as teller, assistant cashier, cashier and vice-president, retiring as executive vice-president in August 1987. After his retirement, he devoted 27 years of lovingly caring for his wife, Elizabeth, who predeceased him on Jan. 31, 2014.
Jerry was a member of the former St. Michael's Catholic Church in Ironwood. He enjoyed spending time with family.
Surviving are two sons, Gerard, Ironwood, and Stephen (Shari), Alvin, Wis .; four daughters, Holly (Rick) Mattson, Ironwood, Cammy (Marc) Tourville, Bessemer, Megon (Mike) Wallenius, Mankato, Minn., and Trina (Bob) Buerger, Stevens Point, Wis .; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a half brother, Tom Stotz; half sister, Mary Jo Mundell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jerry was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Minkin, on Dec. 1, 1984; and his brother, Willard Stutz.
Private family services were held.
