IRON RIVER, Mich. - Richard "Dick" Williams, 70, of Iron River, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018.
He was born May 8, 1947, to Tory Williams and Lillian Poler. He joined the Army, serving from 1966 to 1969. It was his great honor to serve his country.
Richard worked for Lac Vieux Desert Tribe for over 36 years in many different administrative roles. He was a soft-spoken and gentle man, always willing to help anyone who needed assistance of any kind. He had a great love for his community and culture. Richard had a great sense of humor and tremendous love for his family. He was very active in pow-wows. Richard also loved to golf, cook and watch sports.
In 2002, Richard married the former Jennifer Schmidt. Together they made their home in Iron River.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, children, Stephen, Philip, Nicole and Gabe, grandchildren Richard, Maurice, Liberty, Dominick, Jor'El and
Wilhelmina, brothers, James (Nancy Williams), Thomas Williams, Lawrence (Jackie) Williams, Milan Williams and Warren Williams, sisters, Gertrude McGeshick, Linda Williams, Lucy Williams and Joann Williams, as well as a large number of heartbroken nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Tory; sisters, Loretta Williams, Alice May and Mable Williams; four infant siblings and three infant sons.
Services were held on Friday, Jan. 19. The Cane Funeral Home of Bruce Crossing is assisting the family.
