Ontonagon — The western Upper Peninsula will have an opportunity to compare Republican candidates for Governor when they appear in a town hall session in Ontonagon next Saturday, Feb. 17.

Dr. Jim Hines, Lt. Gov. Brian Calley and Sen. Patrick Colbeck will take questions at the gathering at the Ontonagon High School cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Ontonagon County Republican Party. Skip Schulz, chairman of the party, said, “It is the only location that I know of in the Upper Peninsula where there will be three candidates for Governor in the same place and the same time.”

Hines, Calley and Colbeck will discuss the coming primary election and answer questions from the audience.

A fourth GOP candidate, Bill Schuette, said he is unable to attend.

Ontonagon attorney Ted Baird will be the moderator.

Schulz said it was “just luck” that he was able to get the three candidates at the same time. “I called one and expected him to say no. When he said yes, I thought I would try a second and then a third. We were very fortunate they all agreed,” Schulz said.

The Gubernatorial Town Hall will be held at the school at 701 Parker Ave. The doors will open at 10 a.m.

Also in attendance will be Republican candidates for the 38th State Senate district, Ed McBroom and Mike Carey, and the 110th District State House, Kirk Schott and Gregory Markkonen.

Schulz expects a large crowd from around the area.
