Serving Gogebic, Iron and Ontonagon Counties

Ironwood Township — Trinity Lutheran’s preschool and childcare program is looking to give local kids a place to play and held a “Pasta with a Purpose” spaghetti lunch Sunday to help accomplish that goal.
Featuring the standard fare of spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert; Nicole Anderson — the director of the preschool program — said the lunch was raising money toward the purchase of playground equipment for the program.
“We put the fence up last year, so now we’re just trying to fill it in this year,” she said.
The equipment would fill an absence in the area around the school and church at the corner of Lake Road and Margaret Street.
“There’s no playground on this side of U.S. 2, so it’s good for the church kids and the community kids,” Anderson said.
She said the lunch had a nice after-church crowd, which helped attendance; and a lot of people took advantage of the take-out option.
While the final numbers hadn’t been calculated Sunday afternoon, Anderson said they were almost to the $1,500 goal.
