After Parnell's retirement, the family returned to Ironwood. After settling in their new home, Mary Ann resumed working for the Ironwood Public Schools, working her way up to the secretary for the high school principal. She retired in the spring of 1998.

Mary Ann and Parnell enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, playing cards, grilling out and watching Packer games with Parnell's brother, Ken, and sister-in-law, Barbara Bowman. Mary Ann's hobbies included bowling, baking, cake decorating, ceramics and bingo. Along with monthly lunches with her classmates from the Class of 1958, Mary Ann and Parnell were members of the Saxon Harbor Boating Club for over 40 years.

Surviving are her two sons: Steven (Dolly) Bowman, of Brookfield, and their children, BreeAnn and Marisa, Chad Voelker, Carrie Mecikalski, Cristy Chaney, and Craig Voelker, and four great-grandchildren; Scott (Lynn) Bowman, of Negaunee, Mich., and their children, Parker and Jessica; sisters, Clara Jordan and Cecelia Stanczak and sister-in-law Barbara Bowman, all from Ironwood, and brother-in-law Clifford DeBauche, from Green Bay, Wis., along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
