MENTOR, Ohio - Rodney Arnold Mattson, 84, of Mentor, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2018.
He was under hospice care, and his wife and his children were by his side.
Rodney was born on July 9, 1933, in Ironwood, Mich., to Arnold and Helia Mattson.
In 1955, he earned engineering degrees from Michigan Technological University. He served briefly in the United States Air Force. Rodney spent his career developing medical diagnostic equipment, such as X-ray and Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Computer Tomography scanners. He is credited for 77 patents, and retired from Marconi Medical Systems, Inc., a division of Philips Medical Systems.
Rodney was a husband of Teresa Myers Mattson; loving father of David Arnold (Doreen), of Mentor, Jesse James, Painesville, Ohio, Andrew Scott (Rebecca), Davisburg, Mich., Mary Joyce Christopher (John), Interlaken, N. J., and stepfather of Michelle Waryk (Don), and Daniel Myers (Chaz). He was also a loving grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of two.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joyce Goar, and his first wife, Nancy Irene Tassava, in 1988.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018, at 1 p.m., at Advent Lutheran Church, 7985 Munson Rd., Mentor, Ohio. A local memorial service will be held July 3, at 1 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ironwood Township.
