John L. Dupie Jr.

WAUSAU, Wis. — John L. Dupie, Jr., 65, of Ontonagon, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

John was born in Ontonagon on May 3, 1952, to Lois (Moseler) and the late John A. Dupie Sr. He graduated from Ontonagon Area High School in 1970. While attending school he met and fell in love with his lifetime sweetheart, Diane (Miller.) They were united in marriage on July 15, 1972.

John was the water operator for the village of Ontonagon. He also held positions with the village police department, Ontonagon shipyard, White Pine Copper mine, and owned his own painting business.

He was an active member of the Ontonagon volunteer fire department for 43 years, 12 of those years as an assistant fire chief.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and attending his grandchildren’s sporting activities.

John is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Diane; daughters, Heather (Mark) Burgess, Renee Dupie (Dustin), Nikki (Eric) Kulppi and Amy Guy; son, Joseph Guy; mother, Lois Dupie; sisters, Lorrel (Jack) Eldridge, Amy Dupie; brother, Jerry Dupie; grandchildren, Esera Amos, Elijah Dupie, John and Jacob Burgess, Mylee and Maddy Kulppi; great-grandchildren, Nayeli, Nalena and Noah; mother-in-law, Jeannette Miller, and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his father, John, brothers, Robert and Joseph Dupie, sisters, Joanne Guy, Janelle Cole, and niece, Amber Guy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ontonagon with Father Micheal Jacobus officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are by Cane Funeral Home of Ontonagon.
