ONTONAGON, Mich. — Fannie D. Hendrickson, 98, passed away on March 1, 2018 at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital LTCU. Fannie was born on Feb. 1, 1920 in Ontonagon, to Anselm and Fannie (Maki) Mayra of Woodspur.
She attended local schools, graduating with the Ontonagon Class of 1937. She then left for Detroit and was employed by Parke Davis Laboratories and later at Detroit Diesel during World War II.
In 1941, Fannie married Archie Hendrickson and they resided in Detroit until retiring to Ontonagon in 1974. They were happily married for 57 years when Archie passed away in 1998.
During retirement, Fannie was actively involved in the Cane Court Senior Meals Program and served as coordinator for 8 years. She was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Historical Society, Riverside Senior Center and life long member of Finnish Center Association of Farmington Hills.
Surviving are nephews Ronald (Patricia) and Randy (Karen) Karttunen, nieces Susan (Michael) Cowie, Bonita Kukkola and Sharon (Terry) Strean. Fannie also leaves behind many aquaintenances including her dear friend Nancy Weza.
Preceeding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents, five sisters Olga (Matt) Heikkila, Mayme (Arvo) Karttunen, Sylvia (Elmer) Kekke, Sona (Arthur) Wood and Irene (Glen) Wolfe.
Visitation will take place Friday, May 11, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ontonagon from 10-11 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Howard Neider officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials can be forwarded to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ontonagon or the Ontonagon Cancer Society.
