MERCER, Wis. - On May 7, 2018, George James Rozhon, 70, was peacefully called to his home in the sky. Ever the fun-loving guy he never missed the chance for a joke, a good time, a motorcycle ride or an old Western. George was a beloved son, husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend - known as Papa Loon far and wide. To know him was to love him. He will be forever remembered for his sense of humor, his bear-paw hands, his motorcycle with the flags, his red bandanna and his admirable work ethic, because we all know - he'd "rather be roofing".
George was born in Chicago, Ill. on July 20, 1947 to George Frank and Beverly (Gould) Rozhon. He attended Round Lake High School and later joined the United States Army where he served a tour of duty in Vietnam. George moved to Mercer with his first wife, Nancy, in the 1970s where he later started the third generation of George Rozhon Roofing and co-founded the Mercer Loons Motorcycle Club.
George and Wendy were married on Jan. 1, 2001 and enjoyed over 25 years together with their children.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Wendy of Mercer, his children, George "Jake" Rozhon of Menomonie, Tamara (Adam) Mundth of Reedsburg, Amanda Helmers and her children Chloe and Paizley of North Freedom, Megan (Edwin) Tallard and their children Weston and Auston of Madison, one sister, Patricia Barzowski of Puerto Rico, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday May 15, from noon to 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2701 W. Kichaks Landing Road in Mercer, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. concluding with military funeral honors performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9536. A celebration of Life will begin at 5 p.m. at the Heart of the North in downtown Mercer.
