Lillian G. Tervonen

HURLEY, Wis. - Lillian G. Tervonen, 86, a resident of Hurley, and former Hurontown, Mich., resident, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018, at the Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, where she had been a resident patient for the past two years.

She was born on March 10, 1932, in South Range, Mich., a daughter of the late Jacob and Ida (Kinnunen) Siira. Lillian was raised in South Range and was a graduate of the Jeffers High School with the class of 1950.

On Feb. 11, 1953, she was united in marriage to Francis "Franco" Tervonen. The couple had resided in South Range and Hurontown, where they raised their four children. On March 4, 2005, Franco preceded Lillian in death.

Mrs. Tervonen had worked as a secretary in the education system for 35 years, first for Jeffers High School, then Suomi College and retired from Houghton High School in 1990.

Lil was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, Mich., and a life member of the Jeffers High School Alumni Association.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Franco, her parents, and her brothers; Raymond, Reynold, John and Wilho Siira.

Surviving are her children: Janice (Dale Durran) Tervonen, of Seattle, Wash., Dale (Sandra) Tervonen, of Oshkosh, Wis., Ronald Tervonen, of Marquette, Mich., and Robert (Lisa) Tervonen, of Ironwood, Mich .; her grandchildren: David (Jeanette Norton), Daniel, Emma, and Erik Tervonen, Susan (Jon) Spiering, Brian Tomsovic, and Phillip Tomsovic; her great-grandchildren: Ethan Spiering and Allison Spiering; her sisters-in-law: Viola Hedin, of Hurontown, Joan (Robert) Willis, of Owosso, Mich., and Janet (Harold) Mortenson, of Apple Valley, Minn., as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Lillian will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. DJ Rasner to officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery.

Friends may call on Saturday, May 26, from noon until time of services at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock or to the charity of one's choice.
