ONTONAGON, Mich. - Marjorie A. Takala passed away May 28, 2018, at her home in the loving care of her family.
Marge was born Oct. 31, 1925, at home on Diamond Street in Ontonagon, the daughter of Herbert and Beryl (Walker) Daniels.
She attended Ontonagon schools, graduating in June of 1943. She was selected homecoming basketball queen by the community.
On Nov. 11, 1943, she was united in marriage to her classmate. Marvin W. Takala. who was home on leave from the U.S. Navy. To this union, a son Gerald M. Takala was born at Gulfport Mississippi Naval Base and a daughter, Julienne, in Ontonagon.
A lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ontonagon, she loved serving her Lord, being an active member of the alter society and also a member of the Rachel Society, where she held offices of treasurer and secretary.
For many years Margie house-sat for various families and cared for their children. She also served on the Ontonagon County Jury Board from 1983 until 1999.
Her family was most important to her, where she enjoyed baking and taking care of her home, and family and fishing with her husband, Marv. Marge also enjoyed reading and was happy gardening in her yard. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling with her daughter, Julie.
Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents, beloved husband, Marvin, in 2010 and only brother, Jerome, and special cousin, Arthur Hellert.
Surviving are her children, Gerald (Molly) and daughter Julienne, her dearest friend. Also, grandchildren Michael (Karen) and Jonathan (Jessie) Takala, great-grandchildren Nicholas and Morrigan Takala, Grayson and Bennett Takala and great-great granddaughter Esma Takala and numerous nieces and nephews and cousin Alfred Hellert also survives.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Howard Neider officiating Saturday, June 2, at 4 p.m., which was Margie's favorite time of the day as she waited for her family to arrive home from work. Visitation will be from 2 until the time of the service at church. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon.
