GREENLAND — The Ontonagon County Fair, 2018 edition will be held July 26-29 at Adventure Mountain and features some new challenges and events.
In place of the previous 5K Walk-Run, the Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital is sponsoring a “ninja course” competition. There will be a quarter-mile course walk-run loaded with various challenging obstacles. The event will be Saturday, July 28, with registration at 1 p.m. and competition at 2 p.m.
Other challenging events this year are the Adventure Mountain Mud Challenge, also on Saturday, as ATVs and UTVs attempt timed runs up the mountain. Registration is from noon until 3 p.m. and the challenge is slated for 4 p.m. There will be prize money for the top racers in various categories.
The Cheesecake Contest returns for another year with prizes for the top three cheesecake entries as determined by a panel of judges. That event will be on the opening day of the fair, Thursday, July 26. It is also entry day for exhibits.
The Fair Glitz and Glam Princess Pageant returns this year again in three age categories 3-6, 7-9 and 10-12. The event will be Friday, July 27, at 7 p.m.
Exhibits will be judged on Friday, July 27, and animal entries will be accepted.
The Tri-State Carnival will offer rides and other activities Friday through Sunday.
There will also be food concessions, antique tractors and exhibits.
Other Saturday events include a lumberjack breakfast from 7-11 a.m., the exhibit building opens at 9 a.m., poultry and rabbit judging at 10, and live stock show at 10:30. The carnival will be open from noon to 10 p.m. There will also be a youth mock rodeo at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, there will be horse games with registration at 9 a.m. and the games at 10. Also at 10, the exhibit building opens, as will the carnival until 5 p.m.
