DKS Construction of Menomonie, Wis., works to demolish the former Xcel service center building on the power company's property along Alfred Wright Boulevard in Ironwood Monday afternoon. The building was no longer in use since Xcel moved the bulk of its Ironwood operation to the Industrial Park, said Xcel spokewoman Chris Ouellette. She said the new space in the Industrial Park is "awesome for our employees," of which there are 12 to 15. The demolition will take three or four days, she said, adding that while they plan to restore the site, there is no other plan for the property. She said the old building was in "really rough shape, even dangerous" particularly from the shifting of the ground due to the old mine site there.
