Bernard Garrett Hurley

LAKE GOGEBIC, Mich. - Bernard Garrett Hurley, 93, a summer resident of Lake Gogebic, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 11, 2018.

Bernard was born on Dec. 19, 1924, in Fulda, Minn., a son of Daniel and Emma (Schue) Hurley.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

In 1949, Bernard was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marjorie Ann Pellow, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bessemer.

He was employed by the Minneapolis VA hospital in the engineering department.

Bernard was a Boy Scout leader, church worker, president of the AFGE at the VA hospital and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9017 in Fulda.

Bernard is survived by his devoted wife, Marjorie; children, Dan (Marie) Hurley, Princilla (David) Crane, Patricia Gernbacher, Jim (Darlene) Hurley, Joe (Pat) Hurley and spiritual children, Ed (Liz) McCarthy; 15 cherished grandchildren; 11 dear great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Mary (Lee) Macanni and Betty Pellow; numerous nieces and nephews; and wonderful friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. EDT, preceded by visitation at 10 a.m. EDT, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Bergland. The Rev. Binu Joseph will be the celebrant, assisted by Deacon Mike Krempp.

Following the Mass, military rites will take place at the church under the auspices of the Ontonagon County Veterans Association Honor Guard.

A reception will be held at the church hall following the military service.

Rite of Committal and interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer.
