ASHLAND, Wis. — Elizabeth “Bette” Bluse passed away on Oct. 1, 2018, in Ashland.
She was born Elizabeth Methodia to Frank and Elizabeth (Hilger) Gervais on Dec. 18, 1928, in Ashland.
In 1946, Bette graduated from De Padua Catholic High School in Ashland.
On Sept. 12, 1946, she married Clayton “Chickie” Bluse at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Ashland. They resided in Saxon most of their married life. Bette moved to Ironwood, Mich., in the fall of 2003 and then to Ashland in June of 2015.
Bette was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, taking trips with friends and spending time with her family. She belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hurley and was also a member of Mercier-Kero Unit 371 American Legion Auxiliary in Saxon.
She will be missed by her five daughters, Dianne (Robert) Hanson, Saxon, Rae (Jerome) Brotz, Randolph, Joanne (Victor) Oratch, Quinnesec, Mich., Suzanne (Richard) Flateau, New Lisbon. and Cheryl (Paul) Gulan, Ashland.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Al (Melissa) Hanson, Kirsten (Chad) Wolff, Jamie (Kerri) Oratch, Carrie (Chris) Tobish, Ryan (Sue) Gulan, Robin (Bryan Schaller) Gilson, Nicole (Martin) Cherney and Joseph Gulan. She was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brothers-in-law, Byron (Georgi) Bluse. and Ray Savera. and her sisters-in-law, Ann Alonen, Margaret and Nancy Bluse.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Clayton, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Dianne Hanson; her sons-in-law, Robert Hanson and Richard Flateau; her seven siblings, Edward Gervais, Adelle Albertson, Frances Armstrong-Tittle, Margaret Hysel, James Gervais, Geraldine Bourgo and Paul Gervais and special friend, Irv Brittig.
Out of respect for Bette’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, preceded by a visitation from 10-11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Saxon, with Father Frank Kordek as celebrant.
Rite of Committal will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Saxon following the Mass.
A luncheon will be served at the Saxon Community Center following the graveside service.
