Ironwood — As part of the city of Ironwood’s Plaidurday festivities, Ironwood Masonic Lodge No. 389 held an open house Friday.
The lodge has been holding the open houses every First Friday, according to Andy Tait, as an informational event where the public can stop in and find out what the organization is all about.
“We’ve actually had pretty decent turnout,” said Tait, who currently leads the lodge. “We usually have two or three people come in, kind of poke their nose in and see what’s going on.”
Along with the monthly meetings, which are held on the second Thursday of the month, Tait said the group holds a variety of activities — including trap shooting events and movie nights.
The organization is also involved in various community service activities, including helping with the Child ID program, designed to help in case there is a missing child.
For Tait, the comradery is one of the main benefits of being a Mason.
“It’s a mens fraternity, where guys just hang out and have a good time, … give each other a hard time, you can trust them implicitly,” Tait said. “I haven’t found anything like that ever, except here in Masonry.”
