HURLEY, Wis. - Ruth T. Grenda, 88, of Ironwood, Mich., passed away on Oct. 16, 2018, at Villa Maria in Hurley.
Ruth was born on Dec. 25, 1929, in Bessemer, Mich., the daughter of John and Magdaline (Evsich) Lucas. She was a graduate of Bessemer High School in 1948.
On June 25, 1955, she married Donald Grenda at St. Sebastian Parish in Bessemer and they enjoyed over 63 years together.
She was employed as an overseas telephone operator with Michigan Bell in Lansing, Mich., for many years then retired from Bresnan Communications, currently Charter Communications in Ironwood. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood.
Ruth loved to cross-country ski with Don and their friends. She was also an excellent cook and with her extra time she enjoyed weaving baskets.
Ruth loved to travel to visit her sons in the military at their bases. She generously donated her time and talents to many charities.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her grateful family including her husband, Don; children, Sandy (Steve) Sharp of Kimball, Joe (Pam) Grenda of Virginia Beach, Va., and Don (Tracy) Grenda, Jr. of Mayfield, Ky., four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and nine sisters.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the caring staff of Villa Maria.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 108 S. Marquette St., Ironwood. Visitation for Ruth will be on Friday at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.
Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood in the spring.
