Township seeks security camera grant

Ironwood Township — The Ironwood Township Board of Trustees is hoping to improve security in the township offices, passing a resolution Monday to seek a grant for security cameras in the building.

“(The cameras provide) security for both our people, as well as for the township resources. It also helps us prevent vandalism,” Boyd said after the meeting. “The opportunity is there so we want to take advantage of it.”

The township is seeking a $862 grant through its insurance company, Boyd said, to put three cameras on township property. The grant is seeking funds for both interior and exterior cameras, according to Boyd, and would cover have the purchase price.

The company is encouraging the township pursue the grant, Boyd said.

If the grant is awarded, the cameras would be the latest security upgrade to the township offices.

“The board has already made significant changes to the overall security of the office areas with the improvements of security windows and doors, but there is still a need for further overall obscurity measures with the assistance of cameras,” the board’s resolution reads.

In other action:

—The board approved a series of resolutions making budget amendments to its general, water and sewer funds. The amendments cover a variety of changes and are a standard procedure as the end of the year approaches. An overall adjustment of $3,060 in additional expenses was made to the general fund, an overall adjustment of an additional $55 in revenue was made to the water budget and an overall adjustment of an extra $200 in expenses was made to the sewer account.

—The board reappointed Boyd to another term representing the township on the Gogebic Range Water Authority.

—Proponents of the upcoming ambulance millage gave a presentation regarding the November ballot measure.
