Bessemer approves proposals

BESSEMER - Voters in the city of Bessemer on Tuesday approved three proposals by the city council, including two amendments to the city charter.

Proposal 1 amended the city charter, altering the time one must be a resident in order to serve as a city elected official to one year instead of two. This passed 558-247 (69 percent).

Proposal 2 also amended the charter, raising the minimum price for which the city council can sell a piece of property without asking the voters from $2 per capita to $50 per capita. With a population of 1,905 in the 2010 census, the minimum would go from $3,810 to $95,250. This proposal passed 477-304 (61 percent).

Proposal 3 asked the voters' permission for the council to sell three lots in the Industrial Park for up to $10,000 each. This passed 628-198 (76 percent).
