Hurley — More than three of every four registered voters in Iron County cast ballots in Tuesday’s mid-term election, a rate that helped the state of Wisconsin set a new mid-term turnout record.

A total of 3,118 of the 4,012 registered voters in Iron County went to the polls Tuesday, a 77.7 percent turnout rate.

The Associated Press reports more than 2.67 million Wisconsin voters cast ballots — or 59.38 percent of the state’s voting age population. It marked a new record for Wisconsin mid-term participation.

Five of the county’s 12 towns and cities exceeded the county’s average turnout, with the town of Sherman reaching the highest percentage, as 199 of the 229 town’s voters — or 86.9 percent — participated.

Iron County’s lowest turnout was in the town of Knight, where 68.6 percent of voters cast ballots.

Here are the other turnouts:

—Town of Gurney, 85.1 percent.

—Town of Oma, 83.3 percent.

—Town of Kimball, 82 percent.

—Town of Mercer, 80.7 percent.

—Town of Carey, 75.7 percent.

—City of Hurley, 74.3 percent.

—Town of Saxon, 73.5 percent.

—City of Montreal, 72.3 percent.

—Town of Anderson, 72 percent.

—Town of Pence, 69.8 percent.

More than 547,000 absentee ballots were cast statewide, according to the AP, which is also a record. The previous record was set in the 2014 mid-term election.
