IRONWOOD, Mich. - Christopher Mewbourn, 61, of Ironwood, passed away peacefully at his camp, Camp Overkill, on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018.
Chris was born on Jan. 30, 1957, in Milwaukee, son of the late Hubert and Kathleen (Kraynak) Mewbourn. He attended local schools in Ironwood and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1975. Chris earned his Commercial Driver's License at 18 years old and worked as a truck driver or mechanic in the heavy construction business until the time of his death.
He was first employed by his Uncle Bozo, as a driver in his moving company. Most recently, Chris worked for Smily's Excavating and lastly was employed by JJ Sibley, Inc. Chris made lifelong friendships with his co-workers and other drivers.
Chris was a hardworking man who loved hunting, tinkering in his garage, being at camp and lending a hand whenever possible. He was a devoted father and loyal husband. He was a jack-of-all-trades with a kind heart. Chris could easily strike up a conversation with anyone! He was a great friend and will be missed by many.
On May 12, 1979, he was married to the former Karen McQuiggin. She survives.
Also surviving is son, Joe, of New Ulm Minn .; daughter, Ashley, of Hurley, Wis .; his brother, John (Rita) Mewbourn; father-in-law, Bernard "Bunsie" McQuiggin; sisters-in-law, Sue Mewbourn, Nancy Pufall and Lee Ann (Tom) Warren; brother-in-law, John McQuiggin (Mason Kilgore); several nieces and nephews; his dogs, Buddy and Puchenberg; and many friends and extended family.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ryan; his brother, Jim; and his mother-in-law, Marge McQuiggin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. There will be visitation at the church at 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
Burial for Chris will be a later date at Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
