WOODRUFF, Wis. — Lola Larson, 97, formerly of Ironwood, Mich., passed away Nov. 29, 2018, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Woodruff.
The former Lola Irene Stewart was born April 18, 1921, in Ironwood, the daughter of the late Lyle Stewart and Etta (Hunt) Stewart.
Lola graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood in 1939.
She entered the U.P. Beauty Academy in Marquette, Mich., in 1939 and graduated with honors in 1940.
She worked at the Charm Beauty Shop in Ironwood for three years then bought the French Beauty Shop in 1943 as owner and operator.
She married Russell Larson on May 4, 1946, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ironwood. Russell preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 2000.
In 1947, she moved her business to her home under the name Lola’s Beauty Shop, where she worked until she retired in 1995.
Lola was a former member of Lilly Rebeca Lodge, Ironwood Women’s Club, Hurley Lionettes Club, life member of Aurora Chapter No. 48, Order of Eastern Star and the First Presbyterian Church Women’s Association. She was a former member of the Elizabeth Circle, where she was a Past Matron, the Matthew Monroe Grand Chapter of Michigan and Concerned Hearts. Lola was also a member of several bridge clubs.
Lola enjoyed craftwork, including rosemaling, paper tole, tole painting and knitting.
She was once featured in the Ironwood Daily Globe as her Christmas tree only had handmade ornaments on it, all made by herself.
She is survived by her children; son, James (Jan) Larson, of Duluth, Minn., daughter, Donna (Don) Kranz, of Woodruff; four grandchildren; Eric Fabbri, of Madison, Wis., Brianne Mielke, of Rio, Wis., Michael Larson, of Duluth, Minn., and Jacob Larson, of Nowthen, Minn., eight great-grandchildren; Payton Fabbri, Brady Fabbri, Raegan Mielke, Gage Mielke, Carmen Kranz, Ava Marie Larson, Baylee Larson and Hailey Larson.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Russell (the love of her life); her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Walter (Lil) Larson, Claude (Carrie) Larson, Herb (Edna) Larson, Dick (Vivian) Boyle and Bob (Jane) Larson; her sister-in-law, Jane Larson who passed away Nov. 24, 2018; and two stepgrandchildren, David Kranz and Jeremy Kranz.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. Inurnment will take place in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.
