IRONWOOD, Mich. - Raymond Richard Niemi, 84, of Ironwood Township, passed away early Monday morning, Dec. 3, 2018.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Olive; his two sons, Raymond and Patrick, their wives, Paulette and Laurie; his four grandsons, Andrew, Nicholas, Michael and Anthony; and all the members of the extended family across this nation. Raymond enjoyed basketball, football, and gave back to his community by coaching basketball, baseball, and being a charter captain at the local harbors. He enjoyed teaching all the young athletes to strive to go beyond what they believed. His greatest love was watching over his grandsons and all the members of his family.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 6, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., in the St. Joseph Family Room at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 108 S. Marquette St., in Ironwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robb Jurkovich, celebrant.
Following the Mass, military rites will take place at the church under the auspices of Ironwood American Legion Post 5, Bessemer American Legion Post 27 and Bessemer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3673 Honor Guard, assisted by the U.P. Funeral Honors Team.
A luncheon will be served at the parish hall following the military honors.
Rite of Committal and interment will take place at Sunset Acres Cemetery, Ironwood Township, in the spring.
