HURLEY, Wis. - Dorothy H. Peite, 96, of Hurley and formerly of Ironwood, Mich., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019.
Dorothy was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Montreal, daughter of Peter and Anna (Homieleska) Gulan. She was a 1940 graduate of J.E. Murphy High School in Hurley.
After graduation, she was a machinist at Allis-Chalmers in Milwaukee, making a specific part for the "heart of the B52s" during WWII. Other employment included working at Schlitz Brewery, Johnston's Candy and Cookie Factory and as a long distance telephone operator. Returning to Hurley, she worked at Rodeghiero's Bakery and later at J.C. Penney until she retired in 1981.
Dorothy was married to William Peite in 1946 in Mercer. She took pleasure cooking, baking and spending time with her grandchildren. Dorothy later resided at Southgate in Hurley, where she enjoyed her many friends and activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, William, in 1997; brothers and sister-in-law, Albin (Margaret) Gulan and infant, Raymond; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sabina (Jerome) Boutan, Matilda (John) Ruby, Jennie Gulan and Gerrie Gulan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James (Hazel) Peite, Antonette (John) Bino, Mary (Michael) Domich, Donald Koivisto, Roland Routhier and Verne Niemi.
Dorothy is survived by a son, James Peite, and daughter, Susan (Bob) Abelman; grandchildren, Logan Peite, Jeffry (Cynthia) Abelman and Amy (Paul) Waldvogel. Other survivors include sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Roseanne Koivisto, Joyce Routhier, Beatrice Niemi, Bob Pieti and Tony Peite; and many nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, there will be a private family service.
