Ironwood TOWNSHP - For some, the arrival of snow means it's time to put their bikes away. For fat tire bike riders, snow means it's time to get their bikes out and hit the trails.
They had the chance to explore some new ones this weekend as the Sisu Dirt Crew hosted a fat bike tryout Sunday as part of the Sisu Ski Fest's weekend of activities.
"(It's going) good - sunny, not really cold. It's perfect," Sisu Dirt Crew's Tom Bergman said.
The event at the Wolverine trail system's Snow Summit Drive Trailhead near Big Powderhorn Mountain was designed to let people explore the trails.
"(This) really was meant to be a 'try out the trails' day because we have so much new trail that has just been built in the last year," Bergman said. "So we wanted to have people come and try it out."
Bergman said there were fat bikes - which have larger wheels to allow them to ride on snow and other softer surfaces - available for those who didn't have their own.
The fat bike trails were first groomed last year, according to Bergman, but expanded over the summer as new mountain bike trails were built.
Bergman said the expansion means there are roughly five or six miles of fat bike trails in the Wolverine trail system and they'll, 'Soon have more, because we just bought a new groomer."
