BESSEMER, Mich. - Milton S. Nelson, 87, a lifelong resident of Bessemer, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, Jan. 14, 2019.
Milton was born on Dec. 2, 1931, in Bessemer, a son of Louis and Monica Lois (Holup) Nelson. He attended A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer.
On June 5, 1954, Milton was united in marriage to the love of his life, Helen Kangas, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironwood.
Milton worked at various jobs throughout the community.
He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ironwood and a former member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bessemer.
Milton is survived by his loving wife, Helen; five sons, Paul, of Kenosha, Wis., Michael (Vicki), of Ironwood, Neal (Linda) and Karl, both of Bessemer and Kelvin (Vicky), of Pleasant Prairie, Wis .; a daughter, Pamela (James) Webber, Bessemer; eight cherished grandchildren, Amanda (Jordan) Reller, Katie, Alec and Sarah Nelson and Tia, Jacob, Jackson and Jason Webber; three dear great-grandchildren, Lori, Morgan and Cody; a brother, Conrad (Marie), of Bessemer; a sister, Corrine Lake, of Wakefield; and numerous special nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at noon, preceded by visitation at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5120 E. Margaret St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. Steven Hyvonen officiating.
A luncheon will be served at the church fellowship hall following the service.
